The Sacral Chakra, or Svadisthana, meaning "the dwelling place of the self" in Sanskrit, is located above the pelvic bone, about two inches below the navel. It is the center for our sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure, creativity, sensuality, and sexuality. It governs our emotions and feelings, our sense of taste, and the way in which we spiritually and physically enjoy life. From this chakra we develop our sense of worthiness and self-approval, as well as what we allow ourselves to receive in terms of enjoyment, prosperity, intimacy and abundance. The 2nd chakra oversees the large intestine, reproductive system, bladder, appendix, pelvis, lower abdomen, lower vertebra, and hips.
The affirmation of this chakra is "I feel", the color is orange, and its resonant seed sound is VAM (pronounced Vom). (Seed sounds, or Bija Mantras, are one syllable sounds that when said aloud can activate the energy of a chakra. Each chakra has it's own seed sound.)
When our Sacral Chakra is balanced, we feel confident, energetic, compassionate, fulfilled, open to new experiences, joyful, playful, friendly, in touch with our emotions (but not overwhelmed by them), and experience an increase in physical health and vitality. We feel inspired and our positive energy draws people and opportunities to us. Intimacy in relationships and a healthy relationship to sex is also a sign of an open Sacral Chakra.
Issues that arise from a blocked or imbalanced Sacral Chakra can include blame & lack of responsibility, financial difficulty, an unhealthy relationship to sex, low self-esteem, loss of morality, aggressiveness, and bad relationships. Overactive, this chakra manifests in manipulative tendencies, controlling behavior, anxiety, strong cravings and addictions. If underactive, it leads to feeling unworthy, oversensitive, and overwhelmed by emotions. On both ends of the spectrum, shame and guilt are common antagonists of healthy chakras.
Physically, a blocked or imbalanced Sacral Chakra can result in lower back pain, urinary issues, low lobido, chronic lack of energy, sciatia, pelvic pain, obgyn issues, and problems with the intestines, spleen, and gallbladder.
Doing work in this chakra is fuel for our happiness. This is where our beliefs about ourselves stem from, including self limiting beliefs. This week we'll spend time nourishing our creativity and giving ourselves permission to play & express ourselves more freely. The goal is to open ourselves and our lives up to receiving more abundance and joy!
Onto the Sacral Chakra Activities ... :)
